Citation: From the moment these sassy, significant, super, sensational, supposedly Saggitarious Birds stepped on the stage they took on the role of a comedic Parotia that stunned us with their sultry steps. Their portrayal of the mating dance was accurate, entertaining and memorable. It impressed us with its simplistic genius. We also commend the team members for maintaining focus in the face of this performance’s humor.

Citation: This team’s performance went well above the creative call of duty! They prepared and executed their performance so seamlessly and professionally it seemed as though they have been doing this for years! Their costumes and created props were innovative, in fact, they used themselves as props when they weren’t actively ‘acting’. Every detail was paid attention to and they presented a solution that absolutely wowed and amazed the audience AND the Appraisers!.... and oh, did we mention that they are Middle School Students? Their performance was a true example of the spirit of improvisation.

Citation: This team came armed with tons of energy and enthusiasm. During their wonderful performance a few glitches occurred. Undaunted, the team members helped each other while staying in character, and made sure no one missed a beat and all was well. While this is certainly what we all hope to see in ALL performances, we were bowled over when we found out one of their team members was not able to attend. The team was completely unfazed by this and in fact, we discovered this inadvertently! This is a REAL team – energy, enthusiasm, team spirit and support abounded! The team took genuine pleasure in performing and truly showed everyone the “Spirit of DI”!

A New Angle

Team Challenge – nominated by Clarence MS –The Anonymous Figleys, A New Angle team.

Citation: This High School team sacrificed their own structure for an elementary school from another District. They had a structure that could have qualified for testing as a back up structure, when they heard that we, an Elementary team from another school district, needed wood to re-design our structure, they disassembled their back-up structure and gave the wood/pieces to us!. In the end it turned out that this team could have used this structure and probably advanced, but it was too late! Finally, this team spent the next two hours building a new structure to replace the one they destroyed to give us wood. When our team realized the sacrifice of this team we were touched that one team would do something like that for another – their generosity and compassion cost them a trip to Global Finals but they were genuinely happy for our team when it was announced we would be competing in Tennessee! We will not forget that their true Spirit of DI made our dream trip possible, and we will pay it forward!
